PTA minutes January 19, 2010

St. Brigid’s School
PTA Meeting
January 19, 2010

Present: Kathy Berghela, Mary Anne Cecchetto, Rita Fahr, Olga Myshchuk, Ralph Provenza, Tina Resciniti, Sally Rushford and Cori Spain

Meeting began at 6:40 p.m.

Opening prayer led by Mary Anne Cecchetto

The minutes from last month’s meeting were reviewed and approved by all.

OLD BUSINESS

Hannaford Gift Cards
Mary Anne Cecchetto asked if the gift cards could be bought in the school office. Mr. Provenza stated that a limited amount can be bought in $25 denominations at the school office. If you call ahead, more can be ordered.

NEW BUSINESS

Calls to Parents
Tina Resciniti distributed a list of parents, teachers, guardians, etc. names and telephone numbers for volunteers to make calls about the meeting on Thursday, January 21, 2010 regarding the future of St. Brigid’s School. Notification was made that childcare will be provided. There was some feedback about the calls already made. One woman noted the success of her child who has attended St. Brigid’s.

Social
It was suggested for the PTA to host a fellowship social after all masses. There could be a $2 charge for beverages and desserts. Volunteers could take turns providing the drinks and desserts. Mr. Provenza stated that we have plenty of coffee, tea, sugar to be used. As well as raise a little money, we will bring some enthusiasm…fellowship.

OLD BUSINESS

Carnation Sale
The deadline to send in orders for the sale has been extended to 1/29/10. Cori Spain will pick up the carnations on 2/11/10. Volunteers were requested to help out from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on 2/11/10 in Sr. Alice’s room to prepare the carnations for distribution. Cori Spain will make out tags ahead of time – possibly having Student Government assist. Sally Rushford will donate and possibly cut to size yarn needed. A note will be sent home to remind individuals to bring in the orders for flowers.

Parents/Grandparents Breakfast
The breakfast will be held on February 3, 2010 at the Watervliet Elks at 8:30 a.m. Student Government will be there to greet people at the door. There was some discussion about students who do not attend the breakfast.

Scholastic Book Fair
The book fair will be held after the breakfast in Room 11 of the 1886 Building (across from the computer room). There was some discussion about logistics; i.e., preventing the backlog of people checking out, possibly having one table for cash, another for credit cards. Rita offered to assist. It was noted that children go to class after the breakfast/book fair.

Catholic School Week
The PTA will host a social hour after the 11:00 a.m. mass on 1/31/10 in the lower level gathering space at St. Patrick’s Church – coffee and light refreshments/desserts. It was suggested that baked goods be donated by PTA members and those in attendance offered. Last year Schuyler Bakery donated items, as they do for many events. It was decided not to call on them for this event – save their donation for another event. Sally Rushford and Rita Fahr will be at the hall by 10:00 or 10:30 a.m. to set up. It was noted that approximately 50 to 75 people will be in attendance. The announcement has been in the church bulletin already and Fr. Deimeke will announce at the masses. It was suggested to call upon someone from the IHM parish that is familiar with their kitchen. A call will be made to Mrs. Dunbar.

Open Discussion
Mother’s Day aka Spring/Earth Day Dinner: This is tentatively scheduled for April 22, 2010.
Gala: Up in the air as to whether or not we will do it this year. There was talk of nominating an individual to honor at the dinner. We netted over $1,000 last year. Spoke of doing it less formal. Suggestion to rent a tent with lights in the rectory’s backyard – too risky with weather and can be just as expensive as doing it at a restaurant.

Super Raffle: Starts in the middle of May until the end of June.

Block Party: Rita Fahr doesn’t mind calling people to participate, but doesn’t want to make calls until we’re committed to having the party.

Publicity: The Gala brought in a range of individuals; alumni, friends of Mrs. Crinigan. We had around 100 people at the Gala.

Tentative dates to remember:
April 22 Mother’s Day aka Spring/Earth Day Dinner
May 3 Golf Tournament
May 27 Block Party
June 4 Gala (Mass preceding event)

Other items: Rita Fahr asked if the PTA could help with identifying more alumni. Rita Fahr distributed lists of names for people to research for addresses, email addresses and telephone numbers.

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at 6:30 p.m.; there will not be a February meeting due to the school break.

Mary Ann Cecchetto closed with the Our Father.

The meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
